Get your real estate license

Thinking about getting your real estate license?

First, congratulations. Considering this path tells me something important about you: you're willing to bet on yourself.

Real estate is more than learning how to sell a house. You'll gain knowledge about property, contracts, negotiation, markets and how to guide people through major decisions. Where you take that knowledge is up to you.

Exploring your options? You're welcome here.

When you enroll through our Team Legacy link, it helps us know you came through our community so we can offer relevant encouragement and next steps. The CE Shop may share enrollment or course progress information with its partners according to its terms and your choices.

1 · The path

You don't need the whole career figured out to take the first step.

  1. 1

    Check your state's licensing requirements.

Licensing rules differ by state. If you're in Texas, see the callout below. Everywhere else, check your own state real estate commission — Texas requirements don't apply nationwide.

  2. 2

    Choose a state-approved prelicensing course.

The CE Shop is my recommended starting point: self-paced online courses you work through on your schedule. On the site, choose your state and license type so you see the right package — not every package is approved in every state.

  3. 3

Complete the required education and application steps.

Depending on your state, that can include qualifying courses, an application, a background check or fingerprints, and a licensing exam.

  4. 4

Choose your brokerage and get activated.

Finishing classes isn't the same as being able to practice. You need to meet your state's requirements and, where required, have an active sponsoring brokerage before performing licensed services.

  5. 5

Build the business behind your license.

After licensing, the real work begins: finding clients, serving them well, following up, understanding contracts and creating a plan that fits your life.

Getting licensed in Texas?

The Texas Real Estate Commission currently requires 180 classroom hours of qualifying education for a sales agent applicant. The process also includes an application, licensing exam, fingerprints and a sponsoring broker to practice with an active license. Check TREC's current instructions before enrolling or applying, because requirements and procedures can change.

3 · Support

You can ask questions before you're an agent.

Questions about classes? The exam? What a first year in real estate looks like? Whether you'd enjoy working with buyers, sellers or a specialty market? Reach out. I remember how much there is to learn at the beginning, and I'd be glad to help you think through your next step.

For questions about a course purchase, enrollment, grading or technical access, The CE Shop is the right contact. For questions about building a career and exploring Team Legacy, talk with us.

4 · Imagine it

What could you build with your license?

There is no single definition of a successful real estate career. You might want to serve families in your neighborhood, specialize in land or luxury homes, help people relocate, work with investors, or eventually lead other agents. We'll help you explore your strengths and choose a direction that makes sense for your goals and the life you want.

Real estate is a business. It takes service, consistent activity and ongoing learning — a license alone doesn't create success.

5 · Choosing a brokerage

When you're ready to choose a brokerage, let's talk.

I'm passionate about helping agents build a business they own and a life they enjoy. At eXp Realty, agents can explore brokerage training, technology, collaboration and—where eligible—programs such as revenue share and stock awards. Through Team Legacy, you can also find a community of agents and leaders who share practical ideas about niches, marketing, relationships, lead generation, content and follow-up.

eXp Realty provides

  • • Brokerage affiliation and broker support
  • • eXp University training
  • • A formal Mentor Program for eligible new agents
  • • Brokerage technology and tools
  • • A broad agent community
  • • Additional programs whose eligibility and terms are set by eXp

Team Legacy adds

  • • A welcoming agent community
  • • Help exploring your niche and business direction
  • • Marketing and social media brainstorming
  • • Video topics, hooks, scripts and AI prompts
  • • Business planning and follow-up ideas
  • • Training, relationships and local connections where available

eXp's formal Mentor Program is run by eXp and separate from Team Legacy's community support. No particular mentor, lead flow, earnings, stock value or revenue share result is promised; revenue share is not guaranteed passive income.

6 · After you enroll

What happens after you enroll?

  1. While you're in class

Learn the material, ask questions, explore what kind of agent you want to become, and keep us posted on your progress if you choose.

  2. As you prepare for the exam

Follow your state regulator's instructions and use the study support included with your course package, if applicable.

  3. As you consider brokerages

Schedule a conversation with Team Legacy. We can explain what the eXp and Team Legacy experience looks like and help you make an informed decision. Enrollment with The CE Shop does not obligate anyone to join eXp.

  4. After your license is active

Get plugged into the appropriate brokerage onboarding, formal mentorship if eligible, Team Legacy training and a practical first business plan.
